INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT - March 1st The next Instructor development day for the North East will be on Sunday 1 st March at Ellerton, from 10am until 2.30pm These development days are designed for any level of instructor from Assistant Instructor to Nationals. If you are not yet an instructor but are thinking about it, you are more than welcome to come along and observe but will be unable to take an active part in the teaching parts. It will however give you an insight into what is expected of an Instructor. The format will be three instructors working as a group. You must bring one (1) planned teaching topic, either on a slate or in a notebook. This can be anything you want but some done in the past have been, land and dekit, rescue breaths, compass navigation, S.M.B, deploy D.S.M.B, lift and shift, alternate source, first C.B.L., and buoyancy control. You may choose any of these or decide on one of your own. You will each deliver your teaching session and build in at least 1 deliberate mistake. The assumed level of your students is that they have only just reached the level appropriate for the lesson you deliver. You will have 40 minutes from ‘hello' to ‘any questions' including your REAP debrief. At the end of this 40 minutes there will be an instructor debrief looking at the techniques you have used, whether it meets STEP, how it could be adapted and what the deliberate mistake(s) is. You will be attending as an instructor and certain standards are expected. The instructor in charge on the day will do a SEEDS brief on the day and the site but you will each be expected to give a SEEDS brief for your group as part of your teaching session. In order to take part please get in touch with David Taylor or Dave Lucas and book a place. It will cost you £5 to reserve a place, but this is used to pay your entrance fee to the venue on the day. If you do not turn up it is not refundable. If you turn up without booking and paying, we will try to fit you into a group but cannot guarantee it. http://www.dive-wise.com |
