DIVE-WISE Photo Competition

Date : 6 March 2011

This competition will run until the end of February 2010 with the winners presented with their prizes at Divewise 6th March 2011.

Categories

1 - Best of British.

A green water image that captures the essence of diving in UK waters.

2 - Exotic Blue Water.

An image taken abroard that captures all that is best about diving in foreign waters.

3 - Divewise Bags.

An image showing at least one divewise conference bag in the most unusual (geographic) location.

Eligibility of images

All underwater images must have been exposed in ‘Open water” conditions i.e. no pool or aquarium images. Images for Category 3 (Divewise Bags) may be above or below water.

Entrants must have shot the images and have the copyright and model release if appropriate to publication.

The subject must be suitable for family viewing and non controversial

Digital still image manipulation.

The intent of the competition is to run a photographic rather than a Photoshop competition. Digital changes are therefore restricted to minor full frame manipulation to white balance, removing backscatter, adjusting brightness, contrast, colour, saturation and sharpening.

In addition, minor traditional darkroom style manipulation is allowed, including cropping, B &W conversion, and dodging and burning with large basic brushes.

Conservation Rules

  • No marine life should be stressed or harmed for the sake of an image; Entries exhibiting the following behaviour will be disqualified from the competition.
  • No Divers visibly damaging the environment
  • No Images of marine animals clearly showing signs of stress/distress.
  • No Animals moved to an unnatural environment or risky location.
  • No Animals being fed artificial food from divers
  • No Marine life being touched
  • No Divers exhibiting poor buoyancy control.

Copyright

In submitting any entry, the owner grants BSAC Divewise the right to use such photographs for up to 2 years for promotion purposes of the Divewise underwater photography competition in printed, and webpage formats. Prize winning images may also be published in UK dive magazines for non profit promotion of the competition and the public recognition of the winning entries.

All copyrights will be retained by the entrant and recognition will be given to the photographer.

Judging Process

The winning images in each of the 3 Categories will be decided by a public vote by attendees at the Divewise conference. The image with the highest number of ‘votes ‘ in each category will be declared the winner. The competition organisers will cast the winning category vote in the event that 2 images receive the same number of votes.

To Enter

You may enter as many times as you wish. Competitors should bring 10 x 8 inch mounted prints of their entry images to Dive Wise. Please mark on back (via sticker on back of print, name, date image was taken, and place/category).

Please note, competitors should only enter images into the competition if they intend to attend the Divewise event. The winners will be awarded their prizes at Divewise, following the public judging of images.

Alternativley

You may enter by e-mailing your entry to photos@dive-wise.com. e-mailed entries will be shortlisted by 28th February and printed on standard inkjet quality for display at the competition.

We will also try to have the winners published in Dive Magazine.
